En el ejército del Pueblo Libre, muchas tribus e individuos dispares se han unido bajo el mismo estandarte para luchar por su tierra y el derecho a gobernarse a sí mismos. Esta alianza ha dado lugar a algunas treguas incómodas, especialmente entre Harma Cabeza de Perro y el Señor de los Huesos (también conocido como «Casaca de Matraca»). En cualquier caso, han surgido héroes de todos los estamentos, desde la mujer del acero Ygritte, pasando por los líderes exploradores Jarl y el Llorón, hasta el Magnar de Thenn, rey de su tribu. Las tierras del norte no son lugar para débiles, y el Pueblo Libre está dispuesto a destruir a cualquiera que pretenda encadenarlo.
