La armadura de los portadores de la luz de R'hllor se mantiene en la línea de la doctrina general Baratheon, que dice que «cuanto más pesada, mejor». Es por ello por lo que, gracias a su cota de escamas y el bacinete que cubre su casquete de cuero grueso, pueden resistir un asalto directo mejor que la mayoría de las unidades especializadas en el combate a distancia. Además de esto, esa protección adicional también ayuda a los portadores de la luz a valerse de su arma más potente, el fuego, ya que empapan sus flechas en un aceite que arde con viveza. Dicho aceite es pegajoso y se consume rápidamente, pero su intenso calor puede incendiar cualquier material inflamable. Así pues, los adversarios de los portadores de la luz acaban encontrándose bajo el fuego enemigo tanto de manera figurada, debido a que les cae una lluvia de flechas, como literal, debido a las llamaradas que las flechas traen consigo.
