En el extremo occidental del Muro se encuentra Torre Sombría y los hombres de la Guardia de la Noche acuartelados en ella. Como todos los hermanos de la Guardia de la Noche, los lanceros de Torre Sombría portan cuero negro y acero tiznado, que son lo más adecuado para abrigarse del legendario frío del Norte. Los lanceros sobresalen a la hora de proteger los flancos, ya que son expertos en enfrentarse a las cargas enemigas tanto de caballería como de infantería y en llevar a cabo devastadores contraataques antes de que sus oponentes se les echen encima. Si es necesario, los lanceros pueden mantener firme el centro de una línea de batalla, pero lo ideal es que se mantengan en movimiento. Además, tampoco son la mejor tropa para encabezar una acción ofensiva, pero les resulta muy fácil dar apoyo a una maniobra de ese tipo.
