Ya sea liderando sus propias unidades o agrupados en torno al rey Renly Baratheon como muestra de apoyo a sus pretensiones, los héroes de la Guardia Arcoiris son algunos de los guerreros más diestros que han pisado los campos de batalla de la Guerra de los Cinco Reyes. Aunque todos ellos han demostrado ser comandantes sumamente hábiles, su eficacia en combate alcanza los niveles más altos cuando se despliegan formando una unidad compacta junto al propio rey Renly; sin embargo, ello no se debe solamente a su pericia, sino también a que constituyen un símbolo alrededor del que se agrupan todas las tropas del Rey en el Sur.
