Los matones de la Casa Mormont son hombres escogidos por estar totalmente comprometidos con la Casa Mormont y por su amedrentadora apariencia. Al igual que el gran oso que representa el emblema de su Casa, estos hombres pegan con dureza y mueren luchando. Su escasa armadura se compone básicamente de cuero enguatado y una cota de malla ligera, lo que les proporciona una movilidad bastante aceptable. Además, a lo último que cualquier oponente querría enfrentarse es a estas tropas atacándole por un flanco; ya que el hecho de que los matones sufran bajas solo hace que se vuelvan más peligrosos y que quieran enfrascarse en un ojo por ojo, de manera que no es raro que se lleven por delante a sus enemigos antes de caer abatidos. Dado que portan armadura ligera, ningún comandante debería contar con que los matones Mormont puedan mantener firme por mucho tiempo la línea de batalla sin ningún apoyo; sin embargo, sus enemigos tendrán que sudar sangre para acabar con ellos.
